Drinking Tap Water – Drinking Water Contaminants

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is charged with enforcing the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWR or primary standards). These regulations apply to public water systems, like that serving San Jose, CA. The idea behind the standards was to protect public health by “limiting the levels” of contaminants in water. Note the choice of phrasing… “limiting the levels”…and not eliminating the levels. When you’re drinking tap water, the level of contaminants you’re drinking have been determined to be “acceptable” by bureaucrats.

The list of contaminants governed by the primary standards is quite lengthy, and it includes these contaminants in water:

Microorganisms

Disinfectants

Disinfectant Byproducts

Inorganic Chemicals

Organic Chemicals

Radionuclides

Microorganisms

Examples of microorganisms in drinking tap water are:

Giardia Lamblia (gastrointestinal illness – diarrhea, vomiting, cramps)

Legionella (Legionnaire’s – a type of pneumonia)

Turbidity (viruses, parasites, bacteria – nausea, cramps, diarrhea, headaches)

Disinfectants

Examples of disinfectants in drinking tap water are:

Chloramines (anemia, eye & nose irritation, stomach discomfort)

Chlorine (anemia, eye & nose irritation, stomach discomfort)

Chlorine Dioxide (anemia and nervous system affects in children)

Disinfectant Byproducts

Examples of disinfectants in drinking tap water are:

Bromate (increased risk of cancer)

Chlorite (anemia)

Total Trihalomethanes (liver, kidney, & nervous system problems and risk of cancer)

Inorganic Chemicals

Examples of inorganic chemicals in drinking tap water are:

Cyanide (nerve damage or thyroid problems)

Lead (delays in physical/mental development in children and kidney problems and high blood pressure in adults)

Mercury (kidney damage)

Organic Chemicals

Examples of organic chemicals in drinking tap water are:

Benzene (anemia, increased risk of cancer)

Dinoseb (reproductive difficulties)

Vinyl Chloride (increased risk of cancer)

Radionuclides

Examples of radionuclides in drinking tap water are:

Alpha Particles (increased risk of cancer)

Radium 226/228 (increased risk of cancer)

Uranium (increased risk of cancer and kidney toxicity)

On November 17th, 2011, the Associate Press reported that the board of the Santa Clara Valley Water District voted 7-0 to add fluoride to San Jose drinking water. The thought of adding fluoride in water is embraced by some and criticized by others. The San Jose Municipal Water System indicates that all drinking water naturally contains fluoride.

Fluoride in Water – Advocates

Dentists and children’s healthcare providers generally applaud the decision for the water district to put fluoride in water in San Jose. Fluoride in water advocates claim fluoridated water reduces tooth decay. And, they say it benefits children of low-income families and the elderly who may not have routine access to dental care.

Fluoride in Water – Opponents

Those who oppose fluoride in water in San Jose indicate that fluoride in water has nothing to do with tooth decay. They assert it is an education issue for the parents. And, they argue that too much fluoride in water can cause adverse health conditions, such as fluorosis.

Fluoride in Water – Where do you stand?

We’ve been told for a long time that fluoride in water helps reduce cavities. Is it fact…or urban legend?

In any case, fluoride in water in San Jose is all but certain now. If you do not want fluoride or other contaminants in your San Jose drinking water, you have the choice to choose:

Fresh distilled water or reverse osmosis water offered on-tap in our San Jose water store location

Clean drinking water from one of our water treatment systems, such as a Doly-Fin water distiller

Call us 1.408.265.1522 or come by our San Jose water store for a visit. When you stop by, we’ll show you how delicious steam distilled water and reverse osmosis water tastes compared to San Jose tap water. Our systems remove fluoride in water.

What is Chromium?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines Chromium as:

“…a metallic element, is found in rocks, soil, plants, and animals.” ~ EPA

The EPA further reports that Chromium is used in:

Making steel

Metal-plating

Leather tanning

Paints

Dyes

Wood preservatives

The EPA indicates the most common forms of chromium in our environment are trivalent chromium (chromium-3), hexavalent chromium (chromium-6) and the metal form, chromium-0. The medical community informs us that Chromium 6 has been found to cause cancer in lab rats.

And, Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium 6) is present in San Jose drinking water.

“…figure out how we can strategize to reduce not just chromium, but pharmaceuticals and other things” ~ Dr. Thomas Burke (associate dean of the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health)

What’s Being Done About Chromium in San Jose Drinking Water?

Listen to KCBS News Radio reporter Matt Bigler reporting on Hexavalent Chromium in San Jose Drinking Water

“Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein have introduced a bill that would require the Environmental Protection Agency to set limits on the amount of chromium 6 in the nation’s drinking water.” ~ Matt Bigler (KCBS Reporter)

Take note that the intent is to set a new acceptable limit on the amount of Hexavalent Chromium to be allowed in San Jose drinking water.

What You Can Do About It

By their very nature, government organizations generally move slowly. And, recall that the goal of the proposed legislation is to reduce the level of Chromium 6 in San Jose drinking water…not eliminate it.

But, you can easily eliminate Hexavalent Chromium and other contaminants from the drinking water your family consumes. How?

Get Clean Drinking Water

Steam distilled water is up to 99% pure of contaminants…including Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium 6). You can easily get clean drinking water when you get steam distilled drinking water from Best Purified Water in San Jose.

And, you should know that you cannot get fresh, steam distilled drinking water from just any drinking water store in San Jose. Best Purified Water is the only local drinking water store that has invested in the very expensive industrial-strength steam distillers that make steam distilled drinking water on-site.

Steam Distilled Water Filling Stations

Bring in your water bottles and fill them up at our pure water store located at 1781 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose CA 95124.

Make Distilled Water at Home (Distilled Water Make)

New customers often ask, “Can I make distilled water at home?” The answer is “yes, you can easily make distilled water from tap water with a home water distiller.

Whether it’s not convenient for you to drive to our clean drinking water store in San Jose, CA…or you would rather make distilled water at home, you can choose to get one of our top-rated home water distillers for your home.

Choose to Remove Hexavalent Chromium in Your Drinking Water

As you’re reading this, you now realize that Hexavalent Chromium is present in San Jose drinking water. You probably now view that glass of tap water differently…especially when one of your family members is about to drink it.

You now likely want to do something about it for your family.

The choice is yours. Drink water that is up to 99% free of contaminants (including Hexavalent Chromium)? Or, drink water with contaminants in it like chemicals used in industrial steel-making and metal-plating.

Choose clean drinking water for your family.

What is Arsenic?

Arsenic is a notoriously poisonous chemical element. The medical community indicates it is known to be a carcinogen. The fact is that Arsenic in water is naturally occurring.

Arsenic in Water? Really?

“Arsenic contamination of groundwater is a problem that affects millions of people across the world” ~ Wikipedia

Drinking water with high levels of arsenic in it over several years increases the chance of acquiring liver, lung, and bladder cancers. And, the medical community indicates it can cause diabetes, heart disease, neurological damage. It has been determined that Arsenic inhibits the ability of our body to fight off cancers and other diseases.

Arsenic in water. Let that sink in for a moment…

What Else is in Our Drinking Water?

Arsenic is not the only troubling toxin found in our tap water. Besides Arsenic in water, there are many chemicals and toxins present in tap water. The Safe Drinking Water Act established maximum levels for 87+ contaminants in our drinking water. Notice the emphasis on the words “maximum levels” in the last sentence? The Act did not eliminate the contaminants. Rather, it established upper “allowable” limits for the contaminants in our drinking water…including a maximum limit of Arsenic.

Recently, Environmental Protection reported that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ordered Monte Vista Water Company to reduce Arsenic levels in the drinking water they provide to in Douglas, AZ. Apparently it is so serious, that the EPA may fine Monte Vista Water Company $37,000 per day.

How to Remove Arsenic in Water…

There are two drinking water systems that remove arsenic in water, as well as the majority of chemicals and toxins found in our tap water. They are:

Reverse Osmosis Filter Systems (RO Water Systems)

Water Distillers (Distiller Water)

RO water systems remove approximately 50-80% of the chemicals and toxins found in tap water. Distilled water systems remove up to 99% of chemicals and toxins found in tap water…including arsenic in water.

If you have the choice, would you choose clean drinking water? The good news is that you do have a choice, and you can act on it now.

Where to Buy Clean Drinking Water in San Jose?

Safe Drinking Water?

In an effort to prevent epidemics and waterborne diseases, the “Safe Drinking Water Act” was signed into legislation in 1974. Under this act, over 200,000 municipal water systems nationwide are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Acceptable Levels of Water Contamination

The EPA set safety standards for over 80 contaminants, however some studies suggest there have been over 75,000 chemical compounds identified in our waters. The EPA safety standards define maximum levels of bacteria, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals that are apparently considered “acceptable” in the water we use for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Anything above those levels are considered contaminated or polluted.

The water that leaves your local municipal water treatment plant likely meets all EPA health standards. Then, there’s those miles of underground pipes in various stages of decay that deliver the water to your kitchen faucet.

“If you clean up the water and put it in a dirty pipe, there’s not much point”, stated Timothy Ford (Montana State University microbiologist and water research scientist). Ford further indicated, “I consider the distribution system to be the highest risk and the greatest problem we are going to be facing in the future”.

“Acceptable” Contamination…and Your Family

Even though the water probably does not exceed the EPA’s standards, do you really want your family drinking and cooking with water that has “acceptable” levels of bacteria, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals in it?

Water Filtration Systems

Did you know that reverse osmosis water filters are capable of making drinking water approximately 50 – 80% pure. And, steam distillers are capable of making drinking water up to 99% pure…that’s right…up to 99% pure drinking water!

San Jose, CA (November 8, 2011) -
In recent years, drinking purified water has become extremely popular. Now more than ever, more people have embraced drinking water from purified sources and steering clear of unfiltered tap water. While some people associate drinking pure water with being a fad that will pass, people who choose to drink purified water, especially steam distilled water, likely won’t be switching back any time soon.

A company dedicated to getting the word out about steam distilled water and reverse osmosis water is Best Purified Water. It is operated by Aurelio and Lydia Tandoc. The San Jose, CA, based couple started off as customers of the water store they now own. When the original owner decided to retire, the Tandoc’s decided to buy the store.

A second store from the same original owner was also sold, but it was subsequently closed. The Tandocs were smart enough to acquire the industrial strength steam distiller from the second store, and now they have two steam distillers making delicious tasting water that is 99.9% pure of particles, bacteria, and chemicals.

Consumers who want information related to steam distilled water, reverse osmosis water, and related products can turn to the freshly updated http://BestPurifiedWater.com.
